After concluding the masterful exhibition, “Pioneers of Philippine Art: Luna, Amorsolo, Zobel,” the Ayala Museum Third Floor Gallery is hosting a collection of paintings by National Artist Jose T. Joya in “Images of Nation: Abstracting Joya,” on view until January 8, 2012.
Joya (1931-1995) was one of the leading Filipino masters in Philippine abstraction. His early work shows the assimilation of Western art, notably abstract expressionism or action painting: large canvases of vigorous, gestural brushwork, tactile surface textures.
The Images of Nation exhibition series gathers the works by others Filipino artists who were named National Artists in Visual Arts.
