SOUTH AFRICA. A continental first exhibition by Richard Long
10/11/2011 09:44:38

Iziko Museums is proud to host Richard Long: Karoo Highveld, the first showing of the work by British artist Richard Long in South Africa, and, indeed, the first on the African continent.

The artist made his first trip to Africa in 1969 to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Then, he has returned to the continent several times over the years to create his unique sculptural works directly in the landscape. Twice, in 2004 and 2009, Long visited South Africa and produced works in the Karoo and in the Highveld. Richard Long: Karoo Highveld comprises photographic pieces, text and sculptural installations, made during the artist’s two visits to South Africa. Also, this exhibition will show, for the first time internationally, a series of fingerprint drawings made by Long during his residency at the Nirox Foundation in 2009.
